Changing Minds in the Deaf Community

Changing Minds with JPF FILMS created a series of six videos, created by and for the Deaf community, that educate, inform and inspire around themes of safe disclosure, navigating mental distress and services, and how to support each other from a peer perspective.

We have delivered six films on a range of matters relating to Deaf experience of mental health matters. Eight individuals from the Deaf community shared their unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs. These stories highlighted diverse perspectives and shed light on the 
varied experiences within the community.

By Deaf, for Deaf: 
It was essential that this video series was led by the Deaf community, ensuring the Director and participants were members of the Deaf community and could offer realistic insights into Deaf experiences with mental health. 


Community Empowerment: 
The documentary showcased how the Deaf community is advocating for greater inclusion, accessibility, and representation in various aspects of society, including education, employment, and media. 


Cultural Preservation: 
The importance of preserving Deaf culture and sign language was highlighted, emphasising the role of community gatherings, storytelling, and cultural events in maintaining these vital aspects of identity.
