Deaf Wellbeing Drop In Centre

Embedded video:

We have held a total of 21 Drop in Centre sessions. Each with a promoted art theme project to create. A Deaf CSW has been present at each session.

We had over 650 people attend the Drop in Centre during the year.

By providing a qualified Deaf art tutor (Monari Falepeau) we were able to allow the Auckland Deaf community to experience and express themselves artistically. Our Deaf people feel safe being in a Deaf environment and are able to participate in their community group fully. Deaf youth feel empowered with a Deaf art tutor in charge. We also provided a Deaf Community Support Worker (Natasha Jumelet) at the centre to help with other support.

Our project allowed Deaf to be inclusive and reduce social isolation. Feedback is so supportive with many positive comments. We invited and encouraged student NZSL interpreters from AUT to attend. This was beneficial for them to experience Deaf in a social setting.
