A Māori legend story told in VR360
This VR360 project tells the story of Maui who fished up the North Island. Maui is in an avatar format.
A Māori legend story told in VR360 is the first of its kind that has been created in NZ. There has previously been some avatar work. The highlight and achievement from this project include using an avatar created by using iClone and Character Creator 4, where we created Maui from scratch, then with a motion capture suit, we create the story Maui fished up the North Island using NZSL and classifiers.
When it was done, we sent the YouTube to Ko Taku Reo and also on Facebook via a YouTube link where people can use their phones to move around and observe the environment.
The outcome was that we managed to make the Maui fish up the North Island story into a more interactive way where our users can use the phone or computer to explore the environment.
